I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” That can be especially true in Real Estate.
If you want buyers to jump to buy your home, you need to show it in its best light. A good first impression will influence a buyer both visually and emotionally. Make certain that your home has great “curb appeal” so potential buyers will want to get out of their cars and come inside. Also, make very certain your realtor has taken great photos of your property- both inside and outside- and has posted them on the MLS and other web sites to assist potential buyers in deciding that your home is one they want to see.
A bad first impression can keep a potential buyer from even considering your home. Don't show your property until it's in great shape.
Ask others what they think of your home--good points and bad. Your real estate agent sees houses every day and can give solid advice on what needs to be done. Consider your home objectively. It's sometimes hard to separate your personal and emotional ties to the home from the property itself.
Typically, there are some general fix ups that need to be done both outside and on the inside. As a seller, you should consider the following:
- Has your front yard been maintained? Are areas of the house visible to the street in good condition?
- Is your driveway cluttered with toys, tools, or trash?
- Do exterior and interior walls look fresh and clean?
- Does the carpet have stains? Or just look old and worn?
Look at your home through the eyes of a buyer make any necessary improvements. |
